Colonel Miklosy, part 4 – Vitezi Rend

The Vitezi Rend is a Hungarian order that is aimed at Hungarians only. In the original version there is no provision for granting it to foreigners. The rules were so strong that even Hungarian nationals with a non-Hungarian language family name (e.g. German or slavic) had to change their name before they could be awarded the order. Quite some chose not to change their family name and thus not get the order. In 1932 captain Nikolajevits chose to change his name in the magyarized version of Miklosy in order to be eligible for the Vitezi Rend.

The Vitezi Rend used to be one of my main themes of interest for research.
